How Do I Know if My Doctors Are In-Network with Medicare Advantage?

Unlike Original Medicare (which lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare), Medicare Advantage plans use networks. Here's how to check if your doctors are in-network:
Step 1: Get the exact name of the Advantage plan.
Plans vary, even under the same insurance company. Look at the plan name, not just the brand.
Step 2: Visit the plan’s website.
Most plans have a “Find a Doctor” tool. Enter your ZIP code and the doctor’s full name to see if they’re included.
Step 3: Call your doctor’s office.
Ask if they accept your specific plan — not just “Medicare Advantage.”
NOTE: Some doctors will accept your plan and bill your insurance company as a courtesy, so be sure to ask specifically if your doctor is "in-network".
Step 4: Call the plan directly.
If you’re still unsure, customer service can confirm in-network providers for you.
Bonus tip: If you travel or live in multiple states, consider a PPO plan or Medigap, which offers more flexibility. Also, some modern HMO/POS and PPO plans have travel benefits that allow you to use approved providers that are out of state.
Bottom line: Always check before enrolling. A plan with low premiums doesn’t help much if your doctor isn’t part of the network. We can help you verify your providers and avoid surprises.
